The brake system provides stopping power with intense pressure, friction, and heat handled by the essential braking components. Braking components are susceptible to degradation and require as-needed repairs, with the only exception being brake fluid that needs exchange service every two to three years regardless of miles. The typical warning signs that your Bugatti has a brake system problem include requiring a greater distance to stop, grinding and squealing noises, pulling toward one side when braking, and leaking brake fluid, commonly found puddled under your vehicle or found low and requiring replenishment. Brake pads are a high-friction material designed to create stopping power when pressed against the rotors. Brake pads wear down and need replacement service when as little as 3mm remains on the backing plate. Brake rotors have a flat disc where they meet the brake pads. The intense friction causes brake rotor blemishes that compromise braking performance. Brake rotor maintenance includes resurfacing or replacement depending upon the wear and tear. Rotor resurfacing restores disc flatness by removing the portion of the disc where the blemishes compromise flatness. Rotors with excessive grooving, cracking, or warping need replacement service because they don’t qualify for resurfacing. Brake fluid transfers stopping power to the calipers that clamp the brake pads and rotors together. Brake calipers are susceptible to degradation and repairs or replacement depending upon the results of an inspection.
