Bugattis are known for one thing: going fast. In fact, three of them have broken top-speed world records over the years. Most recently, the Bugatti W16 Mistral broke the world record speed for an open-top car, clocking in at 267.85 MPH (431.07 km/h). But what are the other Bugatti models’ top speeds, and why are they that high?

Let’s look at Bugatti’s various makes and models to find out how their designs contribute and relate to their high speeds.

Bugatti Models’ Designs and Top Speeds

Bugatti Tourbillon

The Bugatti Tourbillon is the newest model in Bugatti’s lineup, having debuted in 2024. Its top speed is usually 236 MPH (380 km/h), but with a Speed Key, it can reach 276 MPH (445 km/h). The biggest contributor to the Tourbillon’s speed is, of course, its 8.3-liter naturally aspirated V16 engine. It’s the first Bugatti to feature this engine; all the others mentioned here use the well-known W16 engine. This V16 engine works with three electric motors—one mounted on the rear axle and two mounted on the front e-Axle—to generate the power needed to drive 230+ MPH.

Bugatti W16 Mistral

The Bugatti W16 Mistral is a classic Bugatti roadster, and it has been designed to be the ultimate roadster. It’s still in prototype phases, but it is coming soon. As mentioned above, this was the Bugatti that recently broke the world speed record for an open-top car. The Mistral was able to do that partly because of its W16 engine (it’s the final Bugatti to feature that engine), but also because it’s been tested to make sure it can get past 260.9 MPH (420 km/h) safely.

Along with being extremely fast, the W16 Mistral is luxurious and comfortable. Its interior can be focused on speed, or it can turn into a calming, serene space, depending on what the driver wants.

Bugatti Chiron

The Bugatti Chiron is no longer in production, since the final Chiron was produced in Molsheim in 2024. But from 2016 to 2024, it wowed everyone with its ability to drive over 273.4 MPH (440 km/h) and accelerate from 0 to 62.1 MPH (100 km/h) in just 2.4 seconds. It was named after the famous racing driver, Louis Chiron, who raced for Bugatti between 1926 and 1933. Like the Mistral, it was designed to be extremely comfortable and luxurious while also going extremely fast.

Bugatti Veyron

If you just read the phrase “Bugatti Veyron” in former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson’s voice, don’t worry, there’s a reason for that. The Veyron was mentioned many times on that automotive magazine show because it was just that fast. It was the first car to go over 248.5 MPH (400 km/h), and launched the existence of the hyper sports car, a type of sports car that prioritizes both speed and luxury. It was produced between 2005 and 2015, and it became legendary during that period.
